Step 1: First, view the Buddha statue photos (available upon request from customer service).
Those who make offerings have established a connection with the successful Buddha hall and are devoted devotees. Glancing at it before sleep may also allow the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to sense that a devotee is making offerings to them, thereby strengthening the dedication of merit.
Step 2: Chant the mantra, Sla-p-za-sa-do-ha.
The root mantra that appears in every incantation of the Old Buddha, the essence of all supreme mantras. The fulcrum that mobilizes cosmic energy, and the very origin of all virtuous merits and resources. Repeated recitation reveals the primordial truth of life.
Long-term recitation can avert disasters, alleviate suffering, attract benefactors, bring happiness, attract wealth, and promote health and ward off illness.
Step 3: Take oil in both hands, touch the center of your forehead, then remove your hands.
The simplified version of the five-point prostration, performed while bowing to distant masters and paying homage to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, channels the divine power of marital affinity through the brow into the brain. This energy flows downward, permeating the entire body, mind, and spirit, purifying all impurities and ushering in transformative shifts in destiny.
Step 4: Smell the scent of the marriage oil.
First, take a deep breath—inhale slowly, feeling the air carry the essence and aroma into your nasal passages. The fine hairs in your nose filter it before it finally reaches your lungs. One is the scent of the sacred herbs in the marriage oil itself; the other is the deeper fragrance that enters your nasal cavity. We can sense the profound and mysterious wonder—the tangible physical sensation of spiritual power manifesting.
Alright! Some believers once said it felt like ascending to heaven. It seems someone has entered the cycle of reincarnation and returned to the mortal world.
Step 5: Wipe
The initial application of the marriage oil involves rubbing it onto this specific area.
For now, I won't explain this section. It could easily fill another article. If you can master the basic wiping technique, you've actually done a thorough job.
Step 6: Recite the prayer. A simple version can be recited by reading the first paragraph; if time permits, the full version may be recited.
This part is up to your own schedule.
After completing these five steps, when we recite the prayer, we are also unconsciously conveying the devotee's aspirations—offering everything we have to the distant Buddha.
Before bedtime, there's no need to make wishes. The main focus is to sincerely pay respects to the Master and the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The primary purpose of bedtime practice is to deepen devotion and settle the mind. It's best to get a good rest.
It primarily provides a framework, but ultimately it comes down to personal preference—convenience, anytime, anywhere, whenever you feel like it.
